Brief: to create a narrative highlighting a socially driven issue.
I created a series of illustrations based on the Red Riding Hood story and printed them on fabric which I used to create a mobius strip, symbolising the cycle of abuse which needs to be broken. The surface narrative is of a young girl who's anti-social behaviour is a cry for help which goes unheard by the community who distrust her. The narrative moves from 'real world' images over laid with text from the classic fairy story, to a fantastical fairy tale sequence with the comments of community built into them. My aim was to create a fabric piece which could be used to spark discussion and exploration in a group of adults who might be the unwitting observers of young people in a similar situation.
We can all work together to keep young people safe.
We can start by hearing them

Thank you!
